Connecting Webull (beta)

Connect Webull through the Webull OpenAPI: app key and secret, the test and production environments, and the switches for options, crypto and event contracts.

TigerTradeBot connects to Webull through Webull’s OpenAPI. Through Webull it can trade stocks and ETFs (long only: the API has no short side), options, crypto, and event contracts (Kalshi-powered prediction markets).

Beta. Webull support is complete in the software but hasn’t yet been verified end to end against Webull’s API with real credentials. Keep Webull instances in Paper mode, or on Webull’s test environment, until you’ve confirmed everything behaves as you expect.

Prerequisites

  • A Webull brokerage account
  • OpenAPI access: apply under OpenAPI Management at developer.webull.com, then create an app to get an App Key and App Secret

Step 1: Enter the credentials

  1. Open Settings → Global Configuration → Webull.
  2. Fill in Webull App Key and Webull App Secret. The secret is only used to sign requests on your computer; it’s never sent over the network.
  3. Leave Webull Account ID blank to discover it on first connect, or pin a specific account.
  4. Environment: uat is Webull’s shared test environment and the default; production is the live US OpenAPI.
  5. Paper Trading: true is the default. Live orders need Paper Trading false, Environment production, and an instance in Live mode with a license that allows live trading.
  6. Choose Save Settings, then Test Webull.

Step 2: Choose what Webull may trade

All of these default to off:

  • AutoTrade Enabled lets the scanner and automated strategies route orders to Webull.
  • Options via Webull routes option entries and exits through Webull instead of Schwab. The instance’s own options setting must be on too.
  • Crypto via Webull executes crypto through Webull. Crypto risk limits stay in the instance’s Crypto settings.
  • Event Contracts Enabled turns on event-contract trading. Webull’s fees ($0.01 exchange plus $0.01 firm fee per contract, on both sides) are included in P/L. Event contracts don’t have an order ticket in the app; they trade through the Crypto Arb engine or TigerTradeBot’s API.

Set your own limits with Max Order (USD) and Max Position (USD) for equities, and Event Max Order (USD) for event contracts. A blank or 0 value means no cap, so set one.

Choosing Webull for an instance

The Broker Focus list in Settings → Instance Configuration doesn’t include Webull yet. Until it does, a Webull instance’s broker focus (webull-stock or webull-crypto) is set in the instance’s configuration file or with the --brokerFocus start option. Contact support if you’d like help.

Paper trading with Webull

With Paper Trading true, TigerTradeBot simulates the fills itself; it is not a Webull paper account. Webull’s uat environment is a separate developer test system. Either way, see Paper trading for how simulated fills differ from real ones.

AI Trade Intents (off by default)

The Webull page includes an optional AI Trade Intents panel. When an admin turns it on and asks for a proposal on a symbol, the AI drafts an order (side, quantity and limit price) within the symbol whitelist and the AI limits you set. In manual mode you approve each order; the auto modes skip per-trade approval, and auto-live places real orders without it. Leave it off unless you have a specific reason, and read AI & Local Models first.

Trading involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor.
